Did you know that how fast your business grows will depend on your unique selling proposition.
In internet marketing, the ultimate goal is to have not only high google ranking but also a product that leaves your competitor in the dust, because we have a USP that our competitor does not have.You got to have a competitive advantage and a uniqueness over the rest. The benefit that your customers get are so great that they are willing to switch brands or products or services to use yours.
Now, let’s look at Unique Selling Proposition in greater depth. Unique Selling Proposition is every internet marketer;s foremost concern, ie to be over and above that of other internet marketers out there. Mind you, there are thousands and hundreds of thousands of internet marketers out there.
So how do we beat them?
Let me give you an offline example. In Chinatown Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur, there will always be many types of beggars going around tables in coffeeshops asking for little money from tourists. Sometimes, there would be people pretending to be sick asking for money, sometimes elderly folks whom we think could be homeless and we take pity on them. One particular beggar, a monk from another Asian country stood out compared to the rest. He walks around in his yellow robe carrying a clay jar for donations and another hand holding many thread wrist which supposedly have been prayed over.
Many tourists would willingly give because they think” that by giving the donations in return for the thread wrist band, they would be blessed many fold. By doing this, the monk’s USP is that “Give me some money and your benefit is that I will give you the thread wrist band which will bless and protect you.” So he tends to collect more money compared to the other pitiful looking beggars. I am not surprised if for a day’s begging, he gets easily a thousand RM or more. His tactics touches on human’s compassion and desire for blessings from God.The other old beggars only touches on human compassion and which is what all the other beggars are doing. So you got to stand out from the rest to win.

As of September 2010 ( the movement started only in September 2006) , TOMS has given over one million pairs of new shoes to children in need through Giving Partners around the world. TOMS USP is that they are touching on human compassion . Buy a pair and we will give a pair to a child in need. So if you need to get a pair of shoes, you may think of TOMS first because you know that you are helping a child somewhere in the world. This is an interesting concept and worth emulating with a unique USP.
In order to have a Unique Selling Proposition on the internet, you need to be a superstar salesman among the thousands of salesmen out there. Be a superstar! Be a bestseller! Be a what it takes to get that person to part his credit card and send some money your way. You got to have a strong sales letter with call for action, a strong benefit and a solution to the customer’s woes. you got to be unique. Explore your target audience. Focus on your market within a niche. If your target market are elderly people suffering from joint pains, why not target on elderly people suffering from knee joint pains? That is so narrow but remember, when you are very focused, your gold mine is just waiting there for you to mine.I know most elderly folks tend to suffer from knee joint pains.
So why not start online marketing to these elderly folks?
I once said to my friend who lives in China, “Wow! China’s population is so huge. If we can create a product that the whole China population of 1.3 billion needs, wont we be super mega rich? my friend retorted and said, “Isn’t that everyone’s dream? but it usually wont happen for various reasons. Perhaps she has not heard of unique selling proposition. It is possible if we know what our unique selling proposition is. You got to do thorough research if your business model is viable.
